Organic Markets

Burpengary Organic Farmer's Market
1st and 3rd Saturday of every month
CREEC
150 Rowley Rd Burpengary (opposite Burpengary Meadows State School)
7am till 11am.

As these markets are new, the number of stallholders is small, but I am sure it will grow with time. The quality of produce is excellent - get there early enough and score a dozen organic eggs for $3.50!

Hands

I find the best thing for my hands is straight sweet almond oil (available from health food shops and pharmacies). It's a carrier oil that can be used as a base for other concoctions. Mix a few drops of your favourite essential oil with 4 teaspoons of sweet almond oil and you have a really simple treatment for your hands. If your skin is super dry, mix in a teaspoon of vegetable glycerine. Store in a dark glass bottle (I store mine in a Rescue Remedy bottle) and shake well before each use. A few drops goes a long way with this one!

Rosewater and Glycerine Hand Lotion
All skin types

20ml rosewater
2 teaspoons vegetable glycerine
1/2 teaspoon white wine vinegar
1/2 teaspoon honey
10 drops lemon essential oil (lemongrass would also suffice)

Honey and vegetable glycerine are humectants that will draw moisture to the skin, whilst the vinegar will help restore the ph balance.

Treatments

Egg Treatment
Pre-shampoo

Whisk up 2 eggs.

Massage thoroughly through your hair. Be sure to rinse out with cold water, otherwise you will end up with scrambled egg all through your hair!

Hair Mayonnaise
Pre-shampoo

This is suitable for all hair types except for very oily hair. It pretty much smacks you in the head with a wollop of moisture and protein, so concentrate mainly on the ends and be careful around the roots.

1 organic egg yolk
3 teaspoons apple cider vinegar
1 tablespoon jojoba oil
20ml light organic olive oil
4 drops lavender essential oil

Whisk up the egg and vinegar. Mix together the oils and then add to the egg in a thin stream. Use immediately.

Massage into the hair. For deep conditioning cover your head with a plastic shower cap (or glad wrap), then wrap in a hot towel and leave for 20 minutes. Wash as normal.

Leave-in Spray

Grab a handfull of fresh Rosemary. Pop it in a saucepan and cover with water, bring to the boil and simmer for about 10-15 minutes. Strain. When cooled, place the liquid in a spray bottle. Spray into your hair after washing, or use whenever your locks need a quick fresh up.

Eyes

Aloe Vera Eye Gel

1 teaspoon sweet almond oil
1 capsule evening primrose oil
1 tablespoon aloe vera gel
1 capsule vitamin E
5 drops lavender essential oil

Slowly stir the sweet almond and evening primrose oils into the aloe vera gel, stirring constantly. Add the vitamin E and lavender, stir.

Remember to keep it in the fridge! Mix it up with a cotton bud and then gently apply to the skin surrounding the eye (that includes above the eyebrow) in a clockwise motion.

Masks

Egg Mask

Whisk up an organic egg white, smooth over the face, leave for 20 mins, and the rinse off.

Egg whites, as you may know, contain a stack of protein. This mask will help to smooth and tighten your skin. Leaves my skin looking super polished and even younger (if that's possible).

If you have dry skin, smear that face with honey or oil (such as sweet almond) before applying the egg white.

For oily skin, whisk in 1/2 teaspoon organic lemon juice with the egg white.

Honey Mask

This is even easier than the egg mask and is suitable for all skin types. Grab some honey, warm it up slightly, then spread it over the face. What you then need to do is tap you face lightly all over until the honey starts grabbing your fingers and pulling from the skin (should take a couple of minutes). Then just rinse off with cool water.

Toners

White Tea Toner

This can be used as a traditional toner, or alternatively, can be put in a spray bottle and used as a pick me up. Green tea is a powerful anti-oxidant. Honey is a hemectant, which means that it attracts and retains moisture.

1 pot freshly brewed organic white tea
  • either 1 teaspoon fresh leaves, or,
  • 2 teabags

1 teaspoon organic honey

4 drops of either ylang-ylang, lavender, or jasmine essential oil

Strain the tea and pour into a bottle. Add the honey and ylang-ylang essential oil. Shake well.

Cleansers

Milk Cleanser

This is so simple you'll be asking youself why you didn't do it sooner!

You have two options for this one:
  1. Full cream milk for dry skin
  2. Skim milk for oily skin

Wipe over your face using a cotton ball (or makeup pad). That's it! There is no need to wash it off as it soaks into the skin. Don't worry about it smelling, because it won't. I use skim milk all the time on my face (I tend to have an oily T-zone) and it gives me a really healthy glow.
